Shanghai: The Pearl of China Print E-mail
Located on China’s eastern coast at the mouth of the Yangzi River, Shanghai is the largest and most prosperous city in the country. Originally a fishing and textile town, Shanghai flourished as a center of commerce between East and West throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. It is now the economic and financial center of China, while Beijing remains the political heart.

Shanghai has had numerous name tags attached to it, like "Paris of the Orient" or "Pearl of China". Today, though a modern and fast-paced metropolis, Shanghai is also rich in history and culture. Indeed, some historical landmarks such as the Bund and the former French concession make Shanghai particularly attractive because they display many different styles of architecture. This city is just waiting to be explored!
